Four Mistakes To Avoid When Giving Money Or A Sizeable Gift To A Charitable Organization To Israel

Are you thinking about giving back to a charitable organization, like say to those who survived the Holocaust? There are 4 mistakes you may want to avoid when giving money to an organization like this.

Donate To Israel: The Traps You Want To Avoid

Giving Away Money Too Impulsively

There are going to be those in Israel who ask for money on the street. We call them "street vendors" or something of that nature. Some people may even call you on the phone asking you to donate to Israel for the Holocaust. You may want to avoid this. A better option is to go online and find a good site to give the money to. Donate to the site that gives at least 99% of the money to the cause.

The Item Needs To Be New

Some like to assume they can donate a gift that has been opened to a charitable organization in Israel. This does not happen so much with the Holocaust, but it does with other charities. Every item has to be brand new, never opened.

Taxes

You can claim the donation on your taxes. You need to make your donation before December 31st though. Many people get into trouble over this. Once you make it after the deadline, it cannot be claimed until next year.

Get A Receipt

This can not be stressed enough, especially when you make a donation in a foreign country. There is nothing wrong with making a donation to the Holocaust survivors or something of that nature. You do need to get a receipt. A receipt shows how genuine the charity is. There are going to be some that ask for money without showing any paper trail. You always leave a paper trail.
